She's the one-legged former model and ex-wife of Paul McCartney whose explosive divorce was plastered on newspapers everywhere.

That apparently doesn't count for much in the Bronx.

Heather Mills, who Saturday will donate $1 million worth of vegan food to programs in Hunts Point, drew blank faces from Bronx residents who were shown a picture of the diva.

"She looks Mexican, but I don't know her," said Angela Vargas, 63, a Bronx resident who thought Mills looked strikingly like a Spanish soap-opera actress. "She really looks like them - the hair, the eyes, the breasts."

In an informal survey, the Daily News showed Mills' picture to 20 people in Hunts Point. While many had a hazy idea of who she was, nobody identified her by name.

In London, where newspapers snarkily call the former cover girl "Mucca," in contrast to McCartney's nickname Macca, Mills has been accused of being a prostitute, a shoplifter and a gold digger - allegations that have kept the PETA activist firmly in the public's eye.

But in the Bronx, some only knew her for one thing - the prosthetic leg she has worn ever since being hit by a police motorbike responding to an emergency in Austria.

"Yeah, that's the one with one leg or something," said Lashawnda Floyd, 24, who recognized Mills from her turn on "Dancing with the Stars" but couldn't recall her name.

Mills, a crusader against animal cruelty, chose to donate the vegan hamburgers and hot dogs to kids across Hunts Point because the area has the highest obesity and asthma rates in the city, according to the Hunts Point Alliance for Children.

Most Bronx residents were happy to accept her gift, even if they didn't know who she was.

"She looks like one of these celebrities - like a socialite or something," said Bronx resident Leslie Scarver, who peered briefly at Mills before giving up and walking away.

Mills, who will be on hand Saturday in the Bronx to receive a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for her charity work, also is donating 1,000 meatless Bar-B-Que meals during an event to promote healthy living for kids. via
