Javier Bardem was oddly absent from this year’s Oscars, despite his girlfriend Penelope Cruz’s nomination.
It turns out Bardem, who won Best Supporting Actor last year for No Country for Old Men, was injured on the set of his new movie Biutiful. Spain’s El Pais publication reports that the spinal injury occurred Feb. 12 and he has since recovered and returned to work. According to Hollyscoop the production team had to temporarily lay off the cast and crew until Bardem recovered.
Cruz did win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Academy Awards for her performance in Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona. via
