Ben Affleck: Jennifer Lopez relationship hurt my career

Ben Affleck has said that his relationship with Jennifer Lopez may have harmed his acting career.

In an interview in the current issue of Details magazine, the Pearl Harbour star stated that the media glare on the couple had overshadowed his silver screen appearances.

Speaking about his relationship with the Jenny from The Block star, he said: "It was probably bad for my career".

He told the magazine: "What happens is this sort of bleed-over from the tabloids across your movie work. You go to a movie, you only go once. But the tabloids and internet are everywhere. You can really subsume the public image of somebody."

Affleck, hoping for success with his directorial debut, said the failure of some of his films and the relationship had put him in a difficult position in terms of his career.

Commenting on his film Gone Baby Gone, which revolves around the kidnapping of a young girl, he said: "I feel like this film is a lynchpin for my life, my career. I have a lot riding on it.

"I want [the film] to work. Badly. I mean, a ****** movie comes out on 2,800 screens? I've been there and it's embarrassing,"
he added.

Affleck, who directed his younger brother Casey in the film, also said that he preferred the director's chair, as he was then responsible for the success of the film

"That's why there's something really great about directing - about having authorship over something. If you don't like this movie, I'm the guy to see. I'm the guy to criticise. I take some measure of comfort in that. It's fair, at least," he told the magazine.
